API for IPUMS NHGIS
NHGIS Metadata
The IPUMS API allows users to explore the NHGIS data collection metadata to browse all of the data we have available within the collection.

NHGIS Data Extracts
The IPUMS API allows users to submit, monitor and retrieve NHGIS extracts. As of Version 1, the API is feature-equivalent with the NHGIS web application. That is to say, all features and options available on the web application are also available via API.

NHGIS Supplemental Data
The IPUMS API allows users to download NHGIS Supplemental Data. The main types of supplemental data and their corresponding webpages are:
/blocks-1980/: 1980 Block Boundaries & Summary Statistics
/crosswalks/: Geographic Crosswalks
/environmental/: Environmental Summaries
/estimates/: Annual Tract Estimates
/blocks-1970/: 1970 Block Boundaries (when available)
If, on a webpage, the URL to download a file begins with https://secure-assets.ipums.org/nhgis/, then the API URL to download that file can be found by replacing https://secure-assets.ipums.org/ with https://api.ipums.org/supplemental-data/.
