Explore IPUMS Microdata Collection Metadata
At this time, there is not API support for metadata for our microdata collections. While we hope to provide support in the future, it is possible to use the IPUMS website to gather all of the necessary information to make a request to the IPUMS API. This includes information such as sample IDs and variable mnemonics.
In particular, we’d like to draw your attention to:
- USA
- Sample listing on the IPUMS USA sample IDs page.
- The variable mnemonics are displayed when viewing variables in the IPUMS USA extract building interface.
- CPS
- Sample listing on the IPUMS CPS sample IDs page.
- The variable mnemonics are displayed when viewing variables in the IPUMS CPS extract building interface.
- International
- Sample listing on the IPUMS International sample IDs page.

- ATUS
